Los Naranjos Golf Club, one of Marbella’s most exclusive clubs, will open its doors to the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España from 25-28 November, a perfect culmination for the Race to Costa del Sol, the Ladies European Tour’s Order of Merit. Its manicured course will identify both the winner of this prestigious tournament and the best in the LET ranking, a double crown that was won last year by Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen after an exciting duel with the Spaniards Nuria Iturrioz and Ana Pelaez.
The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, once again sponsored by the Consejería de Turismo, Regeneración, Justicia y Administración Local of the Junta de Andalucía, Turismo y Planificación Costa del Sol and Acosol – Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental, will be held in another of the Costa del Sol jewels signed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., a stellar golf architect who knew how to combine beauty, functionality and quality in a course that takes advantage of the undulations of the terrain and occupies a riverbed crossing the orange grove that lend its name to the course. Los Naranjos Golf Club is another example of the spectacular benchmark of the Andalusian and Costa del Sol courses, and its impeccable greens and fairways will determine the outcome of the second edition of the Race to Costa del Sol, the Ladies European Tour ranking. As the icing on the cake, a €600,000 prize fund for the tournament and a bonus pool of €250,000 to be shared between the top three finishers on the official rankings. “Hosting the 2021 Andalucia Costa del Sol Open de España is not only a great pride, but a reflection of the strong commmitment of Los Naranjos Golf Club with women´s golf, its growth and its media impact. We must remember that this event is the grand final of the Race to Costa del Sol of the Ladies European Tour and the weight it has and should have in the international golf industry, ” said Julián Romaguera, general manager of a club that already hosted a LET event in 1988, the Marbella Ladies Open won by the South African Laurette Maritz. Los Naranjos GC was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr in 1977 and is located in the heart of Nueva Andalucia, in Marbella (Málaga, Spain), a few minutes away from Puerto Banus. It presents a differentiated orography between the front 9 holes and the back 9, and length from the tee is crucial to get good results, specially at the par 3s. Course layout is very convenient for the fans coming to watch, since from certain vantage points they will be able to overlook several holes and enjoy a lot of golf. Over the last few years, the club has made significant improvements, mainly on tee boxes and design finishes, to better adapt to the demand and needs of its members. “In the year 2019/2020 we were awarded with the Golden Flag to Service Excellence by Europe’s leading golf-specific mystery shopper service 59Club after obtaining the Silver Flag the year before. This fact showcases our ambition to keep creating hospitality experience at the service of golf and to continue offering our members and visitors luxury and quality service,” said Julián Romaguera. Once again this year, the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España will serve as a magnet for players and fans thanks to its location as the Ladies European Tour season-finale, its generous prize money and the incomparable attraction of Marbella and its surroundings, a perfect example of how much Andalucía and the Costa del Sol have to offer. This coastal region will host the tournament for the eighth time after those played at Flamingos in 2010, La Quinta in 2011 and 2018, Aloha Golf in 2016 and 2019, and Real Club de Golf Guadalmina in 2017 and 2020. With the 2023 Solheim Cup in the horizon, its same institutional and business partners have decided to back once again the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España. This year, the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España has the renovated support of the Consejería de Turismo, Regeneración, Justicia y Administración Local of the Junta de Andalucía, Turismo y Planificación Costa del Sol and Acosol – Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental, entities that understand the value of golf as a tourist attraction and that are aware of the importance of promoting women’s sports as a way of structuring society. Also aligned with these ideals is REALE, recently incorporated as a collaborating partner of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, whom the promoters of the tournament wish to welcome.
